Kinja'd!!!

So I had a ton of fun, excitement, learned a lot, got super stressed out, and all together had a blast putting together Oppomeet 2016. Now as I told a few people at the event, I am going get around to planning the event for next year. I’m looking for ideas, it could be something as simple as “do it in Bumblefuck Iowa we have X” to “we should get together and do a track day in X followed by Dinner dancing and roller blading in Y”. My hope is to get more “automotive celebrities” like the Amazing, wonderful, brilliant, funny, and all around great guy Steve Lehto Esquire involved (Esquire means lawyer right?). I hope to get bigger and more people able to come, perhaps even getting some prizes and sponsors of the events. So do we do another Chicago trip? Do we do a tail of a dragon? Do we go to Austin and ding dong ditch Patrick George? Let’s hear those great ideas! Ideally, it should be around early August, be relatively inexpensive (this is a subjective thing obviously), be a destination that if one brings a significant other to the event who doesn’t “get cars” they will have other stuff to do, should be relatively easy for the most amount of Oppo’s to go. so let’s hear those ideas!

Nice sticker!

I vote Milwaukee/Chicago. I heard it was a great weekend up at Road America. ;)

I like this idea. Even though I wouldn’t be able to afford to get there.

If we’re doing it on the same weekend next year, I’d vote for going to the IMSA race at Road America. Party it up at Camp Oppo all weekend, watch some awesome racing, do some dinner/drinking in Elkhart Lake, and have an all around awesome time.

Could also offer a cruise option on Saturday, for those not wanting to spend all weekend at the track. Central Wisconsin has some awesome driving roads.

(Just read the portion about the spouse/non-car folk option, so I guess that kind of rules this out)

A few of us have been talking about doing one somewhere in the southeast at some point.

It’s a totally doable 3 hour drive for me.

As fun as a “crashing” another event would be. I want this to be our thing! I will keep that in mind tho if enough people are interested

Just throwing it out there - Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham , Alabama. They’ve got a kick-ass museum there, too.

For a central-ish location, could do Heartland Park, Topeka, KS .

There’s also Road Atlanta ; just for the hell of it, I’ll throw Virginia International Raceway in the mix as well.

I’d have gone to that if I’d been on Oppo back then. I’m still pretty new here. (Another reason to go to one, I guess)

I’d ideally like to a meeting place to be within 250 miles so I can drive my 3rd gen. Antique plates limit it to 250 miles from home, which is more or less Charlotte/Rockingham/South of the Border/both Wilmingtons.

That could be an idea. I was the one who had brought it up in one of the posts about another meet. Myself, Interstate, and a few others discussed it. Atlanta, Birmingham, etc were some places brought up. I meant to make a post last week to see who all would be interested but I had a lot going on and didn’t get around to it.

Yes. Atl yo! Rainbow doesn't live far from me but I've never had the time to try to coordinate anything with him. Owning a business based in the service industry means unpredictable work hours.

Madison, WI would be a good location. The city is beautiful, has tons of great food options, and there are some great driving roads not too far from the city.

It aint bumblefuck,Ia but Harlan, IA might be a centrally located oppomeet for most north american oppos. It is off of I80 in western Iowa. Friendly people and a fairground in town. A few bars around town and a few bars in the town square. Camping nearby with 3 hotels in the town itself. It also has the best sweet corn I have ever tasted. Opporally on b grade roads pending approval from local law enforcement and chamber of commerce. Prolly for nothing. But I like the place.

Atlanta would be more likely to get a bigger turnout. It’s a good 500 miles from me, but it’s at least a straight shot down 85.
